چکیده

An alternative DSS which models the behaviour of the Heart Rate Variability (HRV) signal linked to stable (NREM) and instable (REM) cerebral waves during sleep and a probabilistic model of the sleep stages transitions for decision was developed. Time-Varying Autoregressive Models (TVAMs) were used as feature extractor while Hidden Markov Models (HMM) was used as time series classifier. 24 full polysomnography recordings from healthy sleepers were used for the analysis and those were separated in two sets of Sleep staging from Heart Rate Variability 247 12 each: training and test set. The classification performance for the test set was specificity = 0.851, accuracy = 0.793 and sensitivity = 0.702.

Heart Rate Variability Classification using Support Vector Machine and Genetic Algorithm

Background: Electrocardiogram (ECG) is defined as an electrical signal, which represents cardiac activity. Heart rate variability (HRV) as the variation of interval between two consecutive heartbeats represents the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches of the autonomic nervous system. Objective: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the efficiency of discrete wavelet transfo...

Taylor Expansion for the Entropy Rate of Hidden Markov Chains

We study the entropy rate of a hidden Markov process, defined by observing the output of a symmetric channel whose input is a first order Markov process. Although this definition is very simple, obtaining the exact amount of entropy rate in calculation is an open problem. We introduce some probability matrices based on Markov chain's and channel's parameters. Then, we try to obtain an estimate ...

Detection of abnormal lung sounds considering spectral and temporal features of heart sounds

In this paper, we propose a robust classification method for lung sounds contaminated with heart sounds in order to distinguish between healthy subjects and abnormal patients with pulmonary emphysema. We previously developed a classification procedure based on a maximum-likelihood approach by using hidden Markov models (HMMs). However, contaminated heart sounds caused difficulties in achieving ...

Correntropy-Based Pulse Rate Variability Analysis in Children with Sleep Disordered Breathing

Pulse rate variability (PRV), an alternative measure of heart rate variability (HRV), is altered during obstructive sleep apnea. Correntropy spectral density (CSD) is a novel spectral analysis that includes nonlinear information. We recruited 160 children and recorded SpO2 and photoplethysmography (PPG), alongside standard polysomnography. PPG signals were divided into 1-min epochs and apnea/hy...

Improvements in the Stochastic Segment Model for Phoneme Recognition

The heart of a speech recognition system is the acoustic model of sub-word units (e.g., phonemes). In this work we discuss refinements of the stochastic segment model, an alternative to hidden Markov models for representation of the acoustic variability of phonemes. We concentrate on mechanisms for better modelling time correlation of features across an entire segment. Results are presented for...
